ABOUT
My name is Travis Talboys, and I am the bladesmith/knife maker here at Running Bear Steel. My shop is located in Endwell, a little town just west of Binghamton, in upstate NY. I have been smithing since October of 2018, but before that I was a sculptor working with metal. I made the switch to making knives when I noticed that every time there was a project that required a new tool, I found myself more excited to make the tool then I was for the project the tool was meant for. After inheriting an anvil from my grandfather, also a blacksmith, I decided to try my hand at bladesmithing. Making my first knife was exciting and felt natural, and I've never looked back. I still get excited when I finish a new knife.

Most of my knives are everyday carry (EDC) styles, but I love working on custom designs and the new challenges they sometimes create. Whether it's a hunting knife, a kitchen knife, a utility knife, or something you have been dreaming about, I welcome the opportunity to design a knife that you will want to use for years to come.

I like to forge my knives as much as possible. I enjoy the process of heating and shaping steel into an item that never existed before. I use only new steel in my construction, and I try to source my materials domestically whenever I can. This allows me to provide a lifetime warranty. This warranty covers wear and breakage from normal use, as well as resharpening, should the need arise.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, I offer a custom leather sheath with all my knives. I make most of my sheaths set up to wear on your right side, but I can easily provide one for left hand use as well. If this is something you would like, please contact me and we can work out the details.
